Step 1: Use the time frame.
The Damned Rain is a recent regional film from the late 2000s. This removes any director who was no longer alive or active.
Step 2: Remove Satyajit Ray.
He passed away in 1992, so he could not have made a film in 2009. Option 2 is out.
Step 3: Look at the film's language.
It is a Marathi film about rural distress in Maharashtra. Mani Ratnam works mainly in Tamil and Hindi, and Satish Kaushik in Hindi cinema. Options 1 and 3 do not fit.
Step 4: Match the director.
The Marathi film Gabhricha Paus was directed by Satish Manwar, and its English title is The Damned Rain.
Step 5: Conclude.
So the answer is option 4.
Step 6: Memory aid.
As a memory aid, remember the pair Satish Manwar and Gabhricha Paus. The other Satish in the options, Satish Kaushik, is a Hindi film name and is a common trap for students who only read the first name.
Final Answer:
The director is Satish Manwar.
