Food chains link different trophic levels. The extinction of any trophic level organism will destabilize the entire food chain. For instance, if plants disappear from a food chain, deer would perish from starvation. Consequently, tigers would also die out. This loss of animals would lead to an increase in decomposer populations in the region. This scenario illustrates a single food chain. However, natural food chains are interconnected, forming a food web. Therefore, the eradication of all plants in an area would impact not only deer but also other herbivores like goats, cattle, and sheep.
