Biomagnification describes the escalating concentration of pollutants or hazardous chemicals as one ascends the food chain. These concentrations vary across different trophic levels. For instance, in a pond treated with DDT, producers contained 0.04 ppm. Organisms like fish and clams, which consume numerous producers, accumulated 0.23 ppm of DDT. Seagulls, feeding on many clams, further concentrated DDT in their bodies. The hawk, positioned at the apex of the food chain, exhibited the highest DDT levels.
