Question:easy

Read the passage and answer the question.

Passage (extract): The work which Gandhiji had taken up was not only regarding the achievement of political freedom but also the establishment of a new social order based on truth and non-violence, unity and peace, equality and universal brotherhood and maximum freedom for all. This unfinished part of his experiment was perhaps even more difficult to achieve than the achievement of political freedom. In the political struggle, the fight was against a foreign power and all one could do was either join it or wish it success and give it his/her moral support. In establishing a social order on this pattern, there was a strong possibility of a conflict arising between diverse groups and classes of our own people.

The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Step 1: Understanding the Question:
We must find what "this unfinished part" of Gandhiji's experiment refers to. The word "this" is a back reference, so the answer sits in the sentence just before it.

Step 2: Key Formula or Approach:
When a passage uses "not only X but also Y" and then calls something the unfinished part, X is normally the done half and Y the pending half. Split the opening sentence on that structure and the answer falls out.

Step 3: Detailed Explanation:
Split the first sentence. X is "the achievement of political freedom". Y is "the establishment of a new social order based on truth and non-violence, unity and peace, equality and universal brotherhood and maximum freedom for all".
The next sentence says this unfinished part was harder than the achievement of political freedom. Since it is compared with political freedom, it cannot be political freedom. So it must be Y.
Y is a social order of equality and universal brotherhood. The word for a society of equals is egalitarian, and the passage itself later uses egalitarian and egalitarianism again and again for the same idea. So Y equals option (C).
Option (B) names X, the half that was already achieved. Option (A) picks up class conflict, which the passage treats as a danger while building the order, not as the work Gandhiji left unfinished. Option (D) alters the passage: the change of mind and attitude is "towards property", and it is only the means, not the unfinished work.

Step 4: Final Answer:
The unfinished part was setting up an egalitarian society, which is option (C).
