On January 26, 2025, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) contingents marched down Kartavya Path along with the Armed Forces and Police marching contingents.
There were two marching contingents from the NCC. NCC Girls contingent comprising of 148 girl cadets was led by Commander Senior Under Officer (SUO) Ekta Kumari from the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Directorate. The Boys contingent was led by Commander SUO Prashad Prakash Walkul from the Maharashtra Directorate. The cadets for the girls and boys contingents were drawn from all the NCC directorates.
The contingents marched on the tunes of the NCC band, led by Cadet Ankita Kumari from Birla Balika Vidypeeth, Pilani and Cadet Mahesh Ashok of Scindia School, Gwalior. The band played ‘‘Kadam-Kadam Badhaye Ja’’ and ‘‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’’ to the delight of the spectators.

Abha has recently joined an MNC as an executive. She feels overburdened by the work. She stays back in the office to finish her assignment but the work keeps piling up on her desk. In the review meetings she has to cut a sorry figure due to the unfinished work.
Ashok, a senior manager who had recruited Abha from the campus interview, realized that she was not managing her time well. He asked her to work smartly. She was told to prepare the daily time log and list out tasks for the day. He asked her to do it for a week and discuss the outcome with him.
Next week, after the meeting, Abha realized that time wasters like long phone calls, unnecessary messages, unscheduled meetings and long coffee breaks were eating into most of her office time.
Ashok advised her to cut down on the frivolous activities and carry out daily and weekly work planning and prioritize work as per their importance. The advice worked for Abha. She is now not only more efficient in her work, but also confident.

Our Army has been involved in five major wars with our neighbouring countries. We have fought four wars with Pakistan and one with China. Other major operations undertaken by the Army include Operations Meghdoot, Pawan, Cactus and Rakshak. Many gallantry awards have been awarded to the Indian Army for displaying courage, bravery and selfless dedication beyond the call of duty.
The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India’s highest military decoration awarded for the highest degree of valour or self-sacrifice in the face of enemy. So far, the medal has been awarded 21 times, 14 of which were posthumous awards. Literally meaning ‘‘Wheels (or cross) of the Ultimate Brave’’, it is similar to the Medal of Honour in the United States and the Victoria Cross in the United Kingdom. The PVC was established on 26 January, 1950 by the President of India, with effect from 15 August, 1947.
The PVC was designed by Mrs. Savitri Khanolkar who was married to an Indian Army Officer, Major General Vikram Khanolkar. This was done following a request from the first Adjutant General, Major General Hira Lal Atal, who in turn had been entrusted with the responsibility of coming up with an Indian equivalent of the Victoria Cross by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The medal is a circular bronze disc 1·375 inches (3·49 cms) in diameter. The state emblem appears in the centre, on a raised circle surrounding this, four replicas of Vajra, the all-powerful mythic weapon of Indra, the ancient Vedic King of Gods. The motif symbolizes the sacrifice of Rishi Dadhichi, who had donated his bones to Gods for making a Vajra.

Modernisation is a constant process. The Indian Navy has acquired INS Vikramaditya from Russia. It is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier which entered into service with the Indian Navy in 2013. Originally built as Baku and commissioned in 1987, the carrier served with the Soviet Navy and later with the Russian Navy (as Admiral Gorshkov) before being decommissioned in 1996. She was commissioned on 16 November 2013 at a ceremony held at Severodvinsk, Russia. On 14 June 2014, the Prime Minister of India formally inducted INS Vikramaditya into the Indian Navy and dedicated her to the nation. In addition, Jalashwa – Landing Platform Dock, Shivalik Class – Stealth Guided Missile Frigates, Kolkata Class – Stealth Guided Missile Destroyers, Arihant Class – Ballistic Missile Nuclear Submarine and Sumitra Class – Offshore Patrol Vessel – new classes of ships have been commissioned in recent times. To replace the aging MiG-29K aircraft of the fleet of the aircraft carriers, 26 Rafale-M aircraft are being inducted shortly.

Finally, your aero model is ready for a test flight. Flying a model is an exacting task, like building it. The site, foliage, weather, wind and safety restrictions all affect the flying. In certain cities, like the national capital, flying of models and drones is prohibited. The aero model should not be flown higher than 400 feet within three miles of an airport.
A large field would be an ideal choice for flying. Make sure that there are no tall trees and thick foliage in the area. Trees can cause air pockets and downdraughts and often ‘‘suck’’ the model into the branches.
Having selected a site, now check your model for alignment. A misaligned model will fly haywire and might even get lost. So look at the nose, tail and the wings of the model minutely. No component should be out of place, loose or warped. A balanced model will stay on its point of balance. A calm day with little or no wind will be an ideal situation.
Now hold your model on the point of balance, i.e. approximately one-third back from the leading edge of the wings, and gently launch it in the air with the nose slightly upward. The model will glide gracefully and land on its wheels.
