Finally, your aero model is ready for a test flight. Flying a model is an exacting task, like building it. The site, foliage, weather, wind and safety restrictions all affect the flying. In certain cities, like the national capital, flying of models and drones is prohibited. The aero model should not be flown higher than 400 feet within three miles of an airport.
A large field would be an ideal choice for flying. Make sure that there are no tall trees and thick foliage in the area. Trees can cause air pockets and downdraughts and often ‘‘suck’’ the model into the branches.
Having selected a site, now check your model for alignment. A misaligned model will fly haywire and might even get lost. So look at the nose, tail and the wings of the model minutely. No component should be out of place, loose or warped. A balanced model will stay on its point of balance. A calm day with little or no wind will be an ideal situation.
Now hold your model on the point of balance, i.e. approximately one-third back from the leading edge of the wings, and gently launch it in the air with the nose slightly upward. The model will glide gracefully and land on its wheels.
