Diminishing Play Spaces Amidst Urban Expansion
Authored by Sangeeta, a concerned resident. Increasing urban development leads to the disappearance of parks and playgrounds, supplanted by tall buildings and shopping centers. Children are increasingly confined indoors, leading to excessive screen time and hindering crucial social and physical growth. Playgrounds are essential for cultivating friendships, discipline, teamwork, and creativity. The absence of these spaces contributes to rising rates of obesity and mental health concerns. For instance, a local park in our area was replaced by a parking facility, resulting in significantly reduced outdoor interaction among children. Government intervention is necessary to enact policies protecting and encouraging green areas. Community parks, rooftop gardens, and school grounds require safeguarding. We must ensure children can enjoy their youth beyond the confines of urban structures.
