Anomie, a concept by Émile Durkheim, signifies a societal state of normlessness or weakened social regulation. This condition arises when individuals or groups experience a detachment from prevailing social norms, frequently resulting in confusion, disorientation, and societal instability.
A strong sense of community bonding, social mobility, and adherence to cultural norms are incorrect associations, as these relate to social cohesion, intergenerational and intragenerational movement within social strata, and adherence to established cultural practices, respectively, rather than the dissolution of norms.
