The first symbol signifies an ammeter. An ammeter is a device that measures the electric current within a circuit. How an Ammeter Works:- An ammeter is connected in series within the circuit because the current remains constant throughout all series components.- It measures the electrical charge flow (the current) in amperes (A).- The ammeter is designed to have minimal resistance, ideally zero, to avoid disrupting current flow in the circuit. Ammeter Function:The ammeter's purpose is to measure the current flowing through a circuit, with the reading displayed in amperes (A). (ii) Resistor Symbol:
The second symbol represents a resistor. A resistor is a passive component used to impede or limit electric current flow. How a Resistor Works:- A resistor operates based on Ohm's law, which states that the current \( I \) through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the potential difference \( V \) and inversely proportional to the resistance \( R \).\[V = IR\]- The resistor converts electrical energy into heat and controls the current amount in circuit sections. Resistor Function:The primary function of a resistor is to restrict or control the current flow. Resistors are utilized in voltage dividers, current limiters, and to protect sensitive components from excessive currents.
