Saint Peter, disguised as a beggar, asked the old lady for a piece of bread as he was hungry. He sought her help and kindness, requesting that she share a small portion of her food with him. The old lady, however, was very selfish and miserly. She refused to give him any food, despite his request, because she was unwilling to part with even a small piece of bread. Her reaction was one of indifference and unkindness, as she dismissed him and continued with her work without offering any help.
