Theme – Still Life Composition
Objects Required:
– A big transparent jar
– Sugar (to fill half of the jar)
– 4–5 varieties of seasonal fruits
– A spoon
Arrangement and Composition:
1. Main Focus (Central Object):
Place the big transparent jar at the center of the composition. The jar should be half-filled with sugar so that the texture and transparency are clearly visible. Since the jar is transparent, carefully show the sugar level and the inner surface reflections.
2. Placement of Spoon:
Insert the spoon inside the jar in a slightly tilted position. The handle of the spoon should be visible above the rim of the jar to create height and variation. The angle of the spoon will add movement and interest to the composition.
3. Arrangement of Fruits:
Arrange 4–5 seasonal fruits aesthetically around or slightly below the jar. You may create a semi-circular or triangular arrangement for balance.
– Larger fruits can be placed at the back or sides.
– Smaller fruits can be placed in front to create depth and perspective.
– Slight overlapping of fruits will make the arrangement look natural.
4. Balance and Proportion:
Ensure that the jar remains the focal point while the fruits support and enhance the composition. Avoid overcrowding. Maintain proper spacing between objects.
5. Light and Shade:
Use a single light source from one side to create highlights on the glass jar and fruits. Show reflections on the transparent surface and shadows beneath the jar and fruits to give a three-dimensional effect.
6. Texture and Details:
Carefully depict the texture of sugar, smooth glass surface of the jar, metallic shine of the spoon, and natural texture of fruits (like orange peel, apple shine, or banana curves).
Conclusion:
The composition should be aesthetically balanced, with the transparent jar as the main focus and the fruits arranged harmoniously around it. Proper perspective, shading, and colour harmony will make the still life visually appealing and realistic.
