Peptidyl transferase catalyzes peptide bond formation during protein synthesis. This enzymatic function is inherent to the rRNA of the large ribosomal subunit (50S in prokaryotes, 60S in eukaryotes). The small ribosomal subunit primarily decodes mRNA. While tRNA components (variable loop and acceptor arm) are vital for amino acid recognition and attachment, they possess no enzymatic activity.
