In January 2011, during the UPA-II reshuffle, Beni Prasad Verma (1) became Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Steel. As of 2024, the Steel Ministry is led by a Cabinet Minister (H. D. Kumaraswamy) and a Minister of State (Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma), with no current MoS (IC) for Steel. Other historical figures held different positions.
