An open circulatory system, lacking blood vessels, allows haemolymph to directly perfuse tissues. Organisms such as Anopheles (mosquito), Limax (slug), and Limulus (horseshoe crab) exhibit this system. Anopheles and Limulus are arthropods, which possess open circulatory systems. Limax is a mollusc; most molluscs, excluding cephalopods, also have open circulatory systems. Conversely, Nereis, Balanoglossus, Hirudinaria, Salpa, Pheretima, Musca, and Pila feature closed circulatory systems.
