The Gurukula system was a traditional system of education in ancient India.
In this system, students (shishyas) would live with or near their teacher (guru) in his home or an ashram.
The students would learn various subjects, scriptures, and life skills directly from the guru.
This system was the primary mode of education during the Vedic and post-Vedic periods, which constitute the Ancient period of Indian history.
During the Medieval period, this system declined with the rise of new educational centers like madrasas and Buddhist viharas, and it was largely replaced by the modern school system during the British colonial era.
