Conquering Fear: The Road to Liberation
Fear frequently impedes genuine freedom. The *Indigo* sharecroppers, exploited by the British, lived in constant fear of economic ruin. Gandhiji showed them that courage is essential for freedom—overcoming fear led to self-respect and justice. Likewise, William Douglas in *Deep Water* struggled with a severe fear of drowning, limiting his aquatic activities. He overcame this fear through persistence, demonstrating Roosevelt’s idea that fear is the primary obstacle to advancement. Both examples show that freedom—from oppression or psychological limitations—demands facing and overcoming fear. Courage is vital for self-sufficiency and personal development.
