The Four Pillars of Education, as defined by UNESCO, focus on a holistic approach to education, emphasizing knowledge, skills, values, and social engagement.
The concept of the Four Pillars of Education was presented in the report Learning: The Treasure Within.
This report was submitted to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1996.
The report was prepared by the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century, which was chaired by Jacques Delors. This is often referred to as the Delors Commission.
The four pillars are:
1. Learning to know
2. Learning to do
3. Learning to live together
4. Learning to be
Since the report was commissioned by and submitted to UNESCO, it is an articulation by a UNESCO Education Commission.
