Theme A – Still Life Composition
Objects Required:
– A ladies handbag with a handle
– A mobile phone
– A pair of sunglasses
– A closed colourful umbrella
Arrangement and Composition Guidelines:
1. Placement Below Eye Level:
Arrange all the objects a few inches below eye level so that the viewer can clearly observe the shapes, proportions, and perspective. This angle will make the composition more natural and realistic.
2. Main Focus (Dominant Object):
Place the ladies handbag slightly at the center or slightly off-center to act as the main focal point. Keep the handle raised or gently curved to create height and visual interest.
3. Supporting Objects:
– Place the closed colourful umbrella diagonally beside or slightly behind the handbag to create balance and directional movement in the composition.
– Keep the mobile phone partially visible, either resting near the base of the handbag or slightly overlapping it to show natural placement.
– Position the sunglasses casually on top of the handbag or placed neatly beside it to add variation in shape and texture.
4. Balance and Proportion:
Ensure that the objects are arranged in a triangular or semi-circular composition for visual balance. Avoid placing all items in a straight line, as it may look flat.
5. Use of Light and Shade:
Keep a single light source from one side to create highlights and shadows. This will enhance depth, volume, and realism in the drawing or painting.
6. Colour Harmony:
The colourful umbrella can provide contrast, while the handbag, phone, and sunglasses can create neutral balance. Maintain harmony between bright and subtle colours.
Conclusion:
The arrangement should create an interesting and balanced composition with proper perspective, proportion, light, and shadow. The handbag should remain the central focus, while the other items complement it naturally.
