Ex-situ conservation refers to the conservation of biodiversity outside the natural habitats of organisms. In this method, species are removed from their natural environment and protected in specially designed facilities. This approach is particularly useful for species that are endangered or at risk of extinction in the wild. Examples of ex-situ conservation include zoological parks, botanical gardens, seed banks, tissue culture laboratories, and gene banks. In these places, organisms are carefully maintained, bred, and sometimes reintroduced into their natural habitats to restore populations.
Thus, in-situ conservation focuses on protecting species within their natural ecosystems, while ex-situ conservation involves conserving species outside their natural habitats in controlled environments to ensure their survival and future restoration.
