Greenfield Senior Secondary School Celebrates Environment Awareness Week
Report by: Rahul Batheja, Class XII, Editorial Board Member
Greenfield Senior Secondary School hosted Environment Awareness Week from August 3rd to August 8th, 2025. The event aimed to educate students about environmental issues and promote eco-friendly practices. Principal Mrs. Kavita Sharma inaugurated the week, emphasizing the importance of sustainable living and student-led conservation efforts.
Activities commenced with an Inter-House Poster-Making Competition themed “Our Earth, Our Responsibility”. Following this, a Tree Plantation Drive saw over 150 saplings planted on school grounds and in a nearby community park, with active participation from students in Classes IX to XII, guided by the Eco Club.
A Special Assembly featured presentations on climate change, plastic pollution, and renewable energy. An Awareness Rally was held in the neighbourhood to promote waste segregation and water conservation. A Workshop on Waste Management, in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, introduced students to composting and recycling.
Over 500 students participated enthusiastically in various activities. Teachers supported the events and incorporated environmental themes into their lessons.
The initiative resulted in a greener campus, the installation of waste segregation bins in classrooms, and a student commitment to reduce single-use plastic. The event fostered responsibility and community spirit.
The week concluded with a Pledge Ceremony, where students committed to adopting sustainable habits, ensuring the continuation of Environment Awareness Week’s spirit throughout the year.
