The 1855-56 Santhal Revolt was spearheaded by brothers Sidhu and Kanhu Manjhi of the Santhal tribe. This uprising was a reaction against the exploitative practices of the British and local landlords. Sidhu Manjhi was instrumental in organizing and directing the revolt, which sought to reclaim Santhal tribal rights and contest British dominion over land and resources. The rebellion ultimately resulted in the establishment of the Santhal Parganas, a region named in honor of the Santhal people.
It is important to distinguish that while Birsa Munda led the subsequent Munda Rebellion, Sidhu Manjhi was the principal leader of the 1855-56 Santhal Revolt.
