Klebsiella can cause a severe necrotizing pneumonia and abscesses too, but it is not the organism classically tied to pneumatoceles. Haemophilus influenzae usually gives bronchopneumonia in children without this cystic complication. Streptococcus pneumoniae is the commonest cause of pneumonia in general but rarely leaves behind an air-filled cyst.
