Vinyl alcohol (\( CH_2=CH-OH \)) is an unstable tautomer of acetaldehyde.
Its IUPAC name is Prop-2-en-1-ol, represented by the equilibrium: \[ CH_3-CHOH-CH_2 \rightleftharpoons CH_2=CH-OH. \]
But-2-en-2-ol is structurally and chemically inconsistent with vinyl alcohol, whereas Prop-2-en-1-ol accurately reflects its characteristics.
