Acrylonitrile (CH\(_2\)=CH–CN) undergoes addition polymerization to yield polyacrylonitrile (PAN). PAN finds extensive application in the textile and plastics sectors, and serves as a precursor for carbon fiber manufacturing. - Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is derived from vinyl chloride (CH\(_2\)=CHCl). - Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) is synthesized from tetrafluoroethylene (CF\(_2\)=CF\(_2\)). - Nylon-6 is produced from caprolactam, not acrylonitrile.
