Start by classifying cycles by species. Mammals show two broad patterns of reproductive cyclicity. Primates, humans included, follow a menstrual pattern in which the unused uterine lining is visibly shed as menstrual bleeding. Most other mammals follow an estrous pattern, with a defined heat period of receptivity and silent reabsorption of the lining instead of bleeding.
Knowing this split, examine what genuinely belongs to the human menstrual cycle. Hormones rise and fall in an orderly sequence, with FSH and estrogen driving follicular growth, an LH surge triggering ovulation, and progesterone dominating the luteal phase. The endometrium responds by proliferating, then becoming secretory, then sloughing as menses. Even the vaginal epithelium reflects these hormones, so serial vaginal cytology shows changing maturation of cells across the cycle. All three are legitimate features.
The estrus profile is the outlier. It describes the cyclical heat behaviour of non-primate mammals and simply does not apply to women, who menstruate rather than go into estrus. Therefore it is the item not associated with the human menstrual cycle.
