Jaipur carries the nickname Pink City. The name comes from the pink-terracotta wash given to buildings in the old walled part of the city, a practice that started in 1876 to greet a visiting British royal. As the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur has kept that pink colour scheme alive in its historic quarters ever since.
