The National Testing Agency (NTA) was established by the Government of India in 2017.
Its primary mandate is to conduct efficient, transparent, and international-standard entrance examinations for admission to higher educational institutions.
Major exams conducted by the NTA include JEE (Main) for engineering, NEET for medical, CUET for central universities, UGC-NET for lectureship and JRF, and many others.
While CBSE used to conduct exams like NEET and UGC-NET, these responsibilities have now been transferred to the NTA.
Therefore, the NTA is the main organization for conducting national-level entrance examinations.
