Significant Figures Rules
- Non-zero digits are always significant.
- Zeros located between non-zero digits are significant.
- Leading zeros (preceding the first non-zero digit) are not significant.
- Trailing zeros in a decimal number are significant if present.
Example: Analyze 0.00456
Number: 0.00456
- Leading zeros (0.004) are not significant.
- Non-zero digits (4, 5, 6) are significant.
- No trailing zeros after the decimal point.
Significant figures: 4, 5, 6.
Total significant figures: 3.
