Step 1: Identify who top level managers are.
Top level management includes the CEO, chairperson, and board of directors, the people responsible for the survival and overall direction of the whole organisation.
Step 2: Recall the kind of work this level does.
Because top managers sit at the very top, their work is about the organisation as a whole, setting its direction, framing the broad rules others will follow, and being answerable to the owners for its performance.
Step 3: State four functions.
They formulate the overall objectives and goals of the organisation, deciding what it wants to achieve in the long run. They frame the major policies and strategies that guide the rest of the organisation. They assemble and coordinate all the resources needed, whether finance, people or materials. They are also responsible to the shareholders for the organisation's overall performance and results.
