In 2023, India led the Group of Twenty (G20), a major global economic forum. The G20 includes 19 countries and the European Union, accounting for about 85% of the world's GDP, 75% of global trade, and two-thirds of the world's population.
India organized the G20 Summit in New Delhi, themed “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, which translates to “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” The summit addressed sustainable development, climate action, digital transformation, inclusive growth, and multilateral reform.
Why G20?
(A) SAARC – The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation has had limited activity in recent years and was not chaired by India in this context.
(B) G8 – India is not a member of the G8, which consists of eight developed economies.
(C) ASEAN – India is not a member of ASEAN; it maintains strategic partnerships with ASEAN countries.
Therefore, the correct choice is G20, a key forum for international economic collaboration.
