The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 proposed a major restructuring of the school curriculum and pedagogy.
It replaces the old 10+2 system with a new 5+3+3+4 structure.
This new structure corresponds to the following age groups and educational stages:
1. Foundational Stage (5 years): For ages 3 to 8 (Anganwadi/preschool for 3 years, followed by Classes 1 and 2).
2. Preparatory Stage (3 years): For ages 8 to 11 (Classes 3 to 5).
3. Middle Stage (3 years): For ages 11 to 14 (Classes 6 to 8).
4. Secondary Stage (4 years): For ages 14 to 18 (Classes 9 to 12).
Therefore, the new structure suggested by NEP 2020 is 5+3+3+4.
