Nagarjuna Sagar Dam was completed in 1967.
Work on this dam over the Krishna River started in 1955, and it took about twelve years to finish. It stands as one of the tallest and largest masonry dams anywhere in the world.
The dam was named in honour of Acharya Nagarjuna, a well known Buddhist philosopher connected to the region, and it plays a major role in irrigation and power generation for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
