Megaspore mother cell: This cell undergoes meiosis, yielding megaspores. One of these megaspores subsequently develops into the female gametophyte.
Nucellus: This tissue serves as a nutritional source for the developing female gametophyte.
Megaspore: The megaspore develops directly into the female gametophyte via mitosis. Conversely, the microspore mother cell produces microspores that form the male gametophyte (pollen grains) and plays no role in female gametophyte development. Therefore, the female gametophyte does not originate from the microspore mother cell.
