Autoclaving: Growth media is commonly sterilized using autoclaving. This involves heating the media to 121°C under 15 psi pressure for 15-20 minutes within an autoclave, effectively eliminating microbes and spores.
Membrane Filter Sterilization: Media can also be sterilized by filtration. The media is passed through a membrane with fine pores (0.2 or 0.22 micrometer), physically removing microbes and rendering the media sterile.
