Sharp cardiac images depend on catching the heart when it is moving the least, because any wall motion smears the picture.
Across one heartbeat there are only two quiet intervals. One is at end systole, and the other is in the middle of diastole, a phase known as diastasis. Diastasis falls after the rush of early ventricular filling and before the atria contract, so for that brief span the ventricle is barely moving.
For routine imaging at usual or slow heart rates, this mid diastolic diastasis is the longer and steadier of the two rest windows, which is why coronary CT is timed to it.
The remaining choices all coincide with movement: both mid and late systole feature forceful contraction, and late diastole brings the atrial kick that sets the heart moving again. That leaves mid diastole as the still point.
