Deforestation and hunting were pushing many species toward extinction, so legal and administrative steps became necessary.
Step 2: Give the first step.
The government set up national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and biosphere reserves, such as Jim Corbett and Kaziranga, where hunting and tree felling are restricted.
Step 3: Give the second step.
It also passed the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, which banned hunting of many species and gave legal protection to endangered animals, backed by projects like Project Tiger and Project Elephant.
So the two key steps are creating protected areas and enforcing the Wildlife Protection Act.
