Common Property Resources (CPRs) are resources shared and accessible by all members of a group, not owned by any individual. They are typically managed collectively through informal rules and agreements. Examples include grazing lands, village commons, forests, and water bodies.
Four characteristics of Common Property Resources in India:
Accessibility: All members of a defined community or group can access CPRs.
Collective management: Communities manage these resources together, either informally or via local governance.
Regulated use: Community-defined rules govern CPR usage to ensure sustainability.
Non-exclusive: CPRs cannot be individually owned and are available to all community members.
