Food safety decisions rely on a structured framework built from three connected parts. Risk assessment is the scientific evaluation of potential hazards, risk management is where policy decisions get made based on that evaluation, and risk communication is the ongoing exchange of information between scientists, regulators and the public throughout the whole process. When these three components work together as one system, the overall process they form is called risk analysis.
